Hubby had to go to his school open day today.  That left me on my tod again.  Rather than bum about in the house feeling lonely I decided to go out and about and keep busy.  So got up and dragged my (slightly hungover) ass to Victory Hall for archery.  I missed practise on Wednesday because I didn’t get back from Farnborough till late.  Practise started out great. Brilliant sighters (I should have known it was going to go downhill from there) and first dozen was 107.  Sadly my group then moved to the red/blue border and then everything went totally to pot.  I even hit the target to the left of mine!!  Managed to at least shoot a round, 496 Portsmouth.

After archery I went food shopping all by myself (I don’t think I’ve done a full shop alone for about 5 years).  Kind of strange but also much more efficient (forgot the bacon though) and not as stressful as I’m not being asked “can we get this, I think we really need to buy X, Y, Z powertool or 47″ LCD TV”.  I went to Aldi this week (there’s no market this week in Loughborough as the annual fair is in town)- there’s not as much variety as the bigger supermarkets but it’s also not as busy and there’s always something a bit different.  I even managed to put away all the shopping myself (usually husband growls at me when I try).  Bit miffed to have to buy my own flowers though > :(

Summary of the day: Woke up alone and thought about going to work, Realised it is actually the weekend, Went to archery, Sucked, Went food shopping, Put away said shopping, Read first few chapters of A Room with a View (one of my favourite films, not sure what it is about it that appeals to me)

So this week’s 10 things are the last 10 books that I can remember reading…

1. The Bible
2. Les Miserables - Victor Hugo
3. Don’ts for Wives (1913) -Blanche Ebbutt (someone gave this little book to me for my birthday)
4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - JK Rowling
5. Northern Lights - Philip Pullman
6. The Undomestic Goddess - Sophie Kinsella
7. Artemis Fowl & the Lost Colony - Eoin Colfer
8. Final Notes from a Great Island (A Farewell Tour of Singapore) - Neil Humphreys
9. A Short History of Nearly Everything - Bill Bryson
10. The Jane Austen Book Club - Karen Joy Fowler

Nice mix of different books, enjoyed all of them.  I don’t seem to read books as often as I’d like.  This is probably my list from over the last year or two.  Most of the time I end up reading a book in one or two sittings (sometimes all night).

Summary of the day: Had long, long meeting at work about enterprise modelling, Went out on the piss.

Laptop has gone to laptop hopsickle (tx Phil). Think the hard drive has a damaged sector and is prob fried within an inch of its life. Speaking of frying I’ve just finished a marathon 3 hr cooking session.

So we’re having a dinner party (sounds a bit posh, but we’ve got to have excuses to use our nice wedding china sometimes) tomorrow and I am making Chinese food. So my kitchen became Grand Preparation Station tonight. Am sort of experimenting with a lot of things (I don’t even know what some of the dishes are called) - hope it turns out ok otherwise I may have to take a quick trip to takeaway tomorrow!!! Somehow I have managed to cook about 5 dishes tonight involving almost every pan/pot and method of cooking (frying, boiling, steaming, grilling, ovening). And I managed to watch Heroes at the same time. But it means that I will have time to finish off and tidy the house in the 2 hrs between work and people arriving to eat.

Summary of today: Couldn’t sleep so read Les Miserables till 7.30am (tx Rich for the loan), Went to work, Programmed some lego men to run into a house, Went to quacks, Traipsed around Loughborough looking for a chinese food shop that was actually open, Gave piano lesson, Cooked, cooked, fainted and more cooking.

Do you ever think that sometimes there is a soundtrack playing in the background to your life (like it does in the movies)?  Today I am Feeeeeling Good, da dum, da dum, da dum!!  For some reason I am inextricably feeling rather happy indeed.  Ear’s still a bit sore, but at least the tinitus has stopped.   The sun came out to play today.

Summary of the day: Went to work, ate lunch by the lake in the sunshine, got 3 things ticked off on my work to-do list, played piano, shot 546 (yes a new PB, 25 Golds - w00t), started reading a new book
