Following our ultrasound scan last week and the polyhydramnios diagnosis, had to go in for my Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) today.  Basically they’re running a few tests to rule out various causes of the excess fluid and this one is to check for gestational diabetes which can cause the baby to wee more (and hence create more fluid).   It’s a bit weird to think that baby is drinking in her own wee (but I guess it’s not so freaky when all the nasty things in the fluid are exchanging in the placenta).  I had to fast last night and unfortunately as soon as someone says you can’t eat, you wake up with insomnia in the middle of the night and feel starving.  Got to the hospital 5 mins late cos of stupid amounts of traffic jams around Lufbra (really 35 mins from Tesco to Loughborough General, 4 roundabouts away on the same road) but they weren’t busy so it was OK.  Had to have one vial of blood drawn first, then down a bottle of Lucozade (v hard when it’s so fizzy) then sit tight for 2 hrs in the waiting room.  I managed to find a shop and buy a newspaper to keep myself occupied for a while.  Started feeling really woozy and hungry (lucozade although containing sugar, doesn’t really placate a grumbly tummy) and almost fell asleep.  Had the second blood test 2 hrs after the first.  Meh – they didn’t give me a sweetie this time (how childish am I?).  Somehow managed to drive to work and made a beeline for an early lunch at the canteen – mm jacket potato with cheese AND tuna.  Felt so much better wolfing that down.  WIll get my results from the test next week.  I think it’ll come back normal also my bump doesn’t feel as tight this week so I suspect that my fluid levels have gone back into a reasonable range.  I also managed to convince them to take my next lot of bloods for the midwife at the same time thereby eliminating another trip (and set of punctures) in 2 weeks.

Summary of the day: Got needles stuck in my arms, Went to work, Had meeting, Went to student presentations all afternoon, Got home at 5.30pm knackered, Did nothing all evening, Watched CSI (waaaah poor Warwick)
