Strange Craving May 5, 2008

I had a really odd craving tonight.  I was lying in bed around 10pm and feeling too hot (it was damned muggy last night).  Suddenly I just really wanted to eat something like frozen melon balls.  I don’t even think I’ve ever eaten a frozen melon ball in my life!  I was trying (unsuccessfully) to describe to hubby what I needed.  It had to fulfill the following criteria:

- it must be frozen/cold like ice
- but I want it to kind of fracture into crystals rather than crunch like ice, bit like the outside of a solero
- it must be spherical or have rounded edges
- it must be fruity/sweet

Unfortunately it’s a Bank Holiday today and nowhere is open so hubby and I sat there thinking about what was in the fridge/freezer that I could have as a substitute. He offered me normal fruit - nope not good enough. Ice cubes - nope too crunchy. Frozen fish balls - nope too savoury. I almost started crying I was so desperate. Poor hubby having to put up with my demands (well it’s the first overwhelming pregnancy craving for something odd). In the end he came up with 1/2 a bowl of semi melted ice cubes with some pineapple juice on. It wasn’t exactly what I was needing, but I ate it and felt much better - almost ecstatic (how sad is that!!). I may chop up one of the mangoes we bought from aldi and freeze the chunks for another time.

Summary of the day: Had a lovely quiet bank holiday with hubby, Had a lie in, Had bacon & egg sarnies for lunch, Did gardening (planted out the busy lizzies and yet more weeding), Had a small BBQ for just the 2 of us, Craved frozen melon balls.
