Going along with the theme of me having a midlife crisis, at what point did the parent-child dynamic change with our parents?  I can’t remember the exact day but something happened and now we teach our parents and take them out for dinner, in a similar ilk they need reminding of things and act childishly.  It must have been somewhere between the transition from student to tax paying adult! The last of our parents has finally got online today.  It won’t be long before they all get fed up when they realise that our nephews (ranging from 1 year-10 years of age) start teaching them how to use the computer.   I read somewhere that the optimal age for understanding electronics (computers, programming dvd recorders, etc) is 8, also after your teens you lose more brain cells than you create each day.  Wow that’s depressing.  Think it must be true though as a few years ago I realised that my brain had actually reached maximum capacity and that I had to “lose” some information in order to put more info in, also even if you don’t put more in some still leaks out - shame I can’t control which bits get lost though.

Summary of the day: Went to work, played a lot of scrabble, shot 526 (again), shouted at dog for chasing frogs into the pond, avoided Big Brother on TV

Inspired by BBC News’ 10 Things lists, I thought I would try and make Thursdays my own variation of 10 things.  So the first one will be 10 things I like…

1. Family
2. Playing piano
3. Archery
4. Exploring
5. Moose (Taboo and Coke)
6. Lasagne
7. Having friends over
8. Playing scrabble
9. Wandering round museums
10. Painting

Summary of the day: Went to “work” (didn’t really get much done though), ate yesterday’s lunch, shot a 526 in the garden.

Well, as with probably 99.5% of the adult population I am wondering why so many things are being made taxable. We have income tax, council tax, VAT, CGT, inheritance tax, breathing tax, stax o’ tax. Am in the middle of applying to “get outta here” (emigrate to Australia) and suddenly we have to pay VAT on the medicals (which are already costing £400). What is it with this VAT on medicals lark, one month it’s on, next they’ve relented and taken it off again and now from 1st Sept it’s back on again. Maybe we’ll be able to claim it back again in Nov when they decide it’s off again (doubt it!!). Ah well, if it’s gotta be paid it’s gotta be paid… especially if it’s going to get us out!

Summary of the day: Went to work, forgot my lunch, wrote an abstract, piano lesson, fish n chips for dinner, exercised then pub quiz!

Start of a New Era August 28, 2007

It was my birthday last week!  How come the year seems to go by quicker each year?  I’ve somehow got to my late twenties - and it’s dawned on me that the last 10 years have whizzed by.  I feel like I’m in one of those cinematic effects where I’m standing still and the world is going round in double time!  So I think I may be having some sort of midlife crisis (the first of many I presume).   Hence my decision to start my own blog.  Am feeling the need to at least have some sort of record of various points in my life and my thoughts (just in case the next 10 years go by and I can’t remember them).

Summary of the day: Had a lie in.  Exercised.  Played piano.  Got bored and went to Tescos.  Started a blog!
